How an Interior System Actually Works

Interior waterproofing is often misunderstood as sealing the walls from inside, which does not work and never has — water under pressure simply finds the next path. What a proper interior system does is intercept water before it reaches the living space. We break a channel in the slab around the perimeter, lay perforated drain tile in washed stone at the footing, and route it to a sump basin with a sealed lid and a pump sized to the flow we measured. A vapour barrier on the wall directs any seepage down into the drain rather than out across the floor. The water still arrives; it just leaves again without touching your floor. That distinction is why interior systems succeed where waterproof paint fails.

Is interior cheaper than exterior?

Substantially, in most cases, and it is less disruptive — no excavation, no landscaping loss, no weather dependency. Exterior is warranted when the wall itself is failing structurally or when there is a defect that genuinely must be reached from outside.

Will you have to break up my basement floor?

A perimeter channel, yes — typically a foot or so wide around the affected walls. The middle of the floor is untouched. We patch the concrete back as part of the job and show you the exact footprint before starting.

Does waterproof paint work?

Not for water under pressure. It can slow surface dampness on a wall that is only slightly damp, but against hydrostatic pressure it fails, usually by peeling and taking a layer of the block face with it. We would rather tell you that than sell you a product that buys a season.
