Step 1: Check Power

Check the breaker panel and reset any tripped breaker. Verify the cord is plugged in — vibration can loosen connections over time.

Step 2: Test the Float Switch

Pour a bucket of water into the pit. The pump should activate within seconds. If it doesn’t, the float switch is likely stuck. Replacement costs $20–$80.

Step 3: Check the Discharge Line

In West Michigan winters, discharge lines can freeze at the exterior exit point. Check for a failed check valve allowing backflow.

Step 4: Clear Debris from the Pit
